The circuit shown by Figure 1 can be used to determine the force of a solenoid and the current needed for it. The circuit is a simple rheostat. The designer can make a table noting all the values of current and voltage and the correspondent force measured by a dynamometer in the arrangement shown in Figure 2. Any other rheostat described in Chapter 3 can be used to control the force of solenoids.
