Turning a Load On

 

The simplest way to use a home-made, normally open (NO) mechanical sensor is shown in the Figure 1. The load (motor, lamp, circuit, solenoid, etc.) is placed in series with the sensor. The designer just needs to be careful to keep the load below the maximum current capability of the sensor contacts.

Turning a Load Off

 

The simple circuit shown by Figure 2shows how a normally closed (NC) sensor is used to control a load. The recommendations are the same as in the previous block. Note that the sensor keeps the contacts closed (or open) only while a force acts on it.
