On the site of discussions on Mouser’s Linkedin (www.mouser.com) we found an interesting comment which discusses energy savings at airports, changing the taxing procedure of aircrafts.

A very interesting idea that deserves to be analyzed.

Now a days a huge amount of fuel is burned by aircrafts in the taxing process as it is used for its driving on the landing track the force of the turbines.

This waste is too big, taking into account the efficiency of the process, because the turbines have a very low performance when they have to move the aircraft on the ground, overcoming the friction of the wheels on the track.

An idea that was examined would be to use an electric propulsion for the taxing, which would not be difficult because in addition to the aircraft being on land, it also makes a common course to all the others that go to the head of the track or after landing to the disembarkation finger. This means the possibility to use an energized track to trigger the electric motor in the aircraft that would do its propulsion.

Electricity is clean and cheap, besides, at airports there are large areas that could be covered with solar panels to generate the energy used in the process.

Something to think about.
