Last semester, I took a course on embedded systems where my lab partner and I had to design a video game system, from the game software to the controls. When we finished, the panel board we were working on was an absolute mess. I was perfectly happy that it just worked. My partner, however, insisted for us to restore and print a 3D box for it, like a real video game. We were committed to tidying up the wires, giving our system a look of order. His attention to details, as pedantic as I thought he was at the time, made me feel as if what we were building was worth more than just a jumble of wires with a processor and a screen. For engineers and consumers, the aesthetics of an electronic design can add value sense that is very small on a printed circuit board. This lesson was proven before, with far reaching impact.
