We have already said that the basic point of recovery is to remove moisture and this can be done with the help of dryers like silica gel. If the cellphone has fallen into salt water, we should wash it with ordinary water or preferably distilled water to remove any trace of the salt that can corrode the components and board.

However, one cannot always have silica gel within reach and an interesting alternative that is within the reach of all is nothing more than ordinary rice.

Common rice is a drying agent because it absorbs moisture. Thus, putting the cellphone in an airtight bag with a little rice for some time may be an alternative for those who do not have silica gel.

Note, however, that it should be remembered that once the cellphone has fallen into the water, the first procedure is to remove the battery.

If it is maintained, moisture can create current which causes electrolyte reactions in the various parts of the device, leading to corrosion, which is irrecoverable.

Some recommend using alcohol to clean the cellphone in case it falls into the water, before drying it. It is not a recommended procedure, as alcohol can attack glues and varnishes which protect certain components, further damaging the appliance.

The use of hair dryers or greenhouses is not recommended because the temperature can exceed the maximums supported by the components, causing irreversible damages.
