The circuit presented in the figure is an amplifier for stereo sources with the Maxim MAX9723 DirectDrive circuit (www.maxim-is.com) capable of providing an output of 62 mW with supply voltages of 1.8 V to 3.6 V. The device has volume control and Bass Booster, which makes it ideal for portable sound with high quality applications. The power indicated is for a 16 ohm load and the more noise harmonic distortion is only 0.006% with a PSRR of 90 dB. The BassMax feature makes the bass response is improved thus providing better performance with the use of low cost phones. The consumption is only 3.7 mA with power 1.8V and moreover there is protection against short-circuit and thermal protection. In shutdown mode consumption drops to 5 µA and integrated digital volume control has 32 steps. The MAX9723 can be found in µCSP casings 16 pin QFN or thin sheath 16 pins. More information about the displayed configuration can be obtained at the component datasheet, available for download from the Maxim website. Applications for this circuit include MP3 players, headphones generally Mini Disc players and PDA Audio.
