Designed for battery-powered applications with output voltages from 0.8 V to 1.2 V the regulator shown is based on the integrated circuit LP38855-x.x where X.X determines the desired output voltage for the application. This voltage can be 0.8 or 1.2. The polarization voltages can be between 3.3 V and 5.5 V which allows their use with microcontrollers. In the figure we have the typical circuit of application of this regulator. The circuit is stable with 10 uF ceramic capacitors and the integrated circuit is available in TO-220 5-pin or TO-263 enclosure. The voltage drop in the regulator integrated circuit is only 130 mV with a load current of 1.5 A. The circuit is suggested by National Semiconductor which is now a company of the Texas Instruments group.
