This power control for the AC power line uses a Triac and an Unijunction Transistor. The control circuit is isolated from the AC power line by a transformer. The low voltage stage can be powered from 6 to 12 V. The figure gives details for the home-made transformer. The triac must be mounted on a heatsink and the load depends on the current rate of this component.
