When there is an imbalance in the phases of the power grid, instead of 220 V being divided by 2 and having 110 V in each phase, it may happen that in one of them we have 180 V and in the other 40 V which can cause problems of functioning to the appliances connected to the highest voltage. Even though disconnected, many remain in a low consumption standby state, which means that even if they are not working, they remain powered by the power grid. Thus, an eventual excessive voltage, if they are not of the type for two networks (bi-volt) can cause their burning. The earth bar, mandatory at the entrance to electrical installations, would avoid this problem in many cases.
