I want to use a common dimmer to control several power amplifiers to adjust the volume at one point only by the voltage applied to them. I was informed that this is not possible. Why?

In fact, you should never control electronic devices with dimmers. Dimmers adjust the voltage applied to appliances and amplifiers, televisions and other equipment must operate at fixed voltage. Adjustments should be made by the appropriate controls that these devices have and never otherwise. If the voltage is varied by a dimmer, the circuits will not operate at the correct point and problems ranging from distortion to the actual burnout of the device may occur. In addition, the triad or SCR dimmer distorts the waveform of the applied sine voltage which can cause serious problems for circuit integrity. Dimmers are suitable for ohmic (heater, incandescent) or inductive loads (motors, transformers, solenoids, etc.).
