Thyratron valves are the old equivalents of modern SCRs. Once fired, even after the clock disappears, they continue to drive the current.
The circuit shown serves both to demonstrate the operation of this type of device as well as to prove its operation.
Starting with the cursor at point B, the instant arrives at which the trigger voltage is reached and then the valve leads to light the lamp. The lamp is 220 V type with 4 or 5 W of power.
A symmetrical 170 V source must be used to power the circuit. In figure 1 we have the complete diagram of the test and demonstration apparatus.
