The RMS value or root mean square, is also called effective value and is equivalent the same numbered DC value in the heating effect it dreates in a resistance.
Formula 1
Vrms = 0,707 x Vmax
Where:
Vrms is the effective value or rms of the voltage in volts (V)
Vmax is the maximum value or peak value in volts (V)
Note: 0,707 os the square root of 2 divided by 2.
Formula 2
Vmax = 1,4142 x Vrms
Obs.: 1,4142 = √2 e 0,707 = √2/2
Application Example:
Determine the peak or maximum value of an AC sine 127 Vrms?
Data:
Vrms = 127 V
Vmax = ?
Using formula 2:
Vmax = 127 x 1,4142 = 179,6 V
