In the figure we have a high stability voltage reference, providing a voltage of 10 V at the output, practically independent of the variations of the input voltage. The current in the zener diode is only 2 mA, value maintained by R1. For stability to be maintained at that source, the resistor must be 5 ppm / °C and the diode should have a coefficient of 1 ppm / °C.
