Wires, cables, household appliances, incandescent lamps, fuses, switches and transformers with power supply primaries can be tested with this useful test lamp.

A test lamp or standard lamp, as it is also called, serves to check the continuity of various electrical and electronic devices.

Pressing the terminals (PP1 and PP2) on the test devices, if there is continuity, the lamp lights up, and if there is an interruption the lamp remains off. If the lamp brightness is maximum, this may indicate a short circuit.

The lamp should be 5 to 25 watts or even 40 watts, the smaller ones are better because they result in less current. The bulbs should be incandescent.

Probes can be improvised with common large nails encased in the cable.

Note that this circuit is not isolated from the power grid and that all tests must be done with analyzed devices or components disconnected from the mains. Do not just turn off your switches. They must be unplugged from the jacks.
