The capacitors store electrical energy. We can demonstrate this with an interesting experience very simple, in which the discharge of the capacitor through a speaker is made with the transformation of the electric energy into sound.
This experience requires no more than a set of batteries, a common speaker and a capacitor of values between 10 and 1000 uF. In the figure we show the diagram and the realization of the experiment.
The experience: we connect the capacitor to the four cells so that it loads. As the capacitor is electrolytic it is necessary to observe its polarity. Then, we disconnect the capacitor and carefully not to touch one terminal in the other, we put these terminals in the wires of the speaker. This will cause the speaker to pop.
With the complete discharge of the capacitor, it is no use to touch the capacitor on the speaker wires. To repeat the experiment we must recharge the capacitor.
Experiment with capacitors of various values showing that the stored energy depends on the values. This experiment also serves to test an electrolytic capacitor.
