To power small projects that require currents up to 1 A, we give a fixed power source that is simple to assemble and very efficient, because it has electronic regulation and short-circuit protection at the output. This source, shown in figure 1, makes use of an integrated circuit 7806.
The assembly can be done using a small terminal strip, as shown in figure 2.
The integrated circuit can regulate currents up to 1 A, but who determines the final output current intensity is the transformer.
Thus, if the reader uses a lower current transformer, this will be the maximum current from its source.
The integrated circuit must be provided with a heat radiator and the transformer must have primary winding with voltage according to its power grid.
The electrolytic capacitors have the minimum working voltages indicated in the material list and the diodes admit equivalent. For a voltage of 5 V at the output just use the 7805. For 12 V, use a 12 V transformer and the 7812 CI.
