Here is the simplest version that can be constructed of a rhythmic light with neon lamp. The lamp will blink in the same rhythm as the music you play on your stereo, recorder or even portable radio.

 

The circuit is ultra-simple, because all we need is the neon lamp, a resistor and a transformer. This transformer is primary 110/220 V and secondary voltage from any voltage between 5 and 12 V with current from 150 to 300 mA.

 

The transformer in this circuit raises the signal voltage in order to excite the neon lamp. The power absorption is very small, so the circuit does not affect the sound level of the system.

The resistor R1 must be 10 ohm for output power between 1 and 10 W. For larger inputs, increase the value of this resistor. For smaller powers such as radios and recorders, the resistor can be eliminated.

 

In figure 2 we have the assembly of the apparatus based on a terminal strip.

In this same figure we have how to connect the unit to your sound. In the case of portable radios and recorders the connection can be made in the own speaker or in the phone jack.

 

For a stereophonic sound system, mount one unit for each channel.
