The circuit shown in Figure 1 can be used in a project involving a small moving robot with some “intelligence.”

It also can be used as a shield for microcontrolled projects when a short puls can be used to reverse a motor for few seconds witghout depending on the software.

X1 is a movement sensor, used as an “antenna” to detect obstacles. When the sensor is momentarily activated in the presence of an obstacle, the motor is reversed for a few seconds (as determined by the RC circuit).

This is enough to move it back by several centimeters, after which the motor is again reversed. If some kind of mechanism is used to change the robotºs direction, it can now proceed forward in other direction, attempting to find a clear passage.

As the reader can see, this applications is based in the MEC055E, giving several seconds of reverse movement. The latch given by Block MEC056E can also be adapted to the circuit, making it continue until an external action changes this condition.
