In this article we focus on two new Maxim components available by Mouser Electronics which are of great importance for projects that require boost converters with special features.
We are talking about MAX17290 and MAX17292 from Maxim which have a shutdown current of only 4 uA and can operate at 2.5 to 36 V voltages at 2.5 MHz.
The input voltage range of these integrated circuits ranges from 4.5 to 35 V and the transient protection voltage is 45 V.
The different versions of these components offer additional functions such as synchronization output for 180-phase out-of-phase operation, overvoltage protection using separate input (OVP), and a reference input pin to enable voltage adjustment features.
The new components are available in 12-pin TQFN (casing measuring 3 x 3 mm) and also in 10-pin uMAX housings.
In Figure 1 below we have a typical application circuit suggested by Maxim.
Highlights for this component are:
- All capacitors used can be ceramic.
- Frequencies range from 100 kHz to 1 MHz for the MAX17290 and from 1 MHz to 2.5 MHz for the MAX17292 with external synchronization.
- Efficiency is greater than 90% reducing dissipation
- Reduction of EMI by scattered spectrum control
The current in normal operation is 0.75 mA (tip) and in the shutdown condition of 4 uA (tip).
In the graphs in Figure 2 we have some important features of these components obtained from Maxim's own datasheet.
The package is shown in Figure 3.
