This small power source from a 1970s publication uses a germanium transistor. We can use a silicon transistor like the TIP32 and in place of the OA85 a 6V6 or close zener. The transistor must have a heatsink and the secondary of the transformer must have 1 or 1.2 A. The diodes can be 1N4002.
