This simple solar powered MW receiver was obtained from a 1974 Popular Electronics. The transistor can be the BC558 and the solar cell of any type from 3 to 6 V, the type found in calculators and other applications. The coil consists of 30 + 50 turns of wire 28 in a ferrite rod and the variable capacitor is the type found in old AM radios. The antenna must be long, and the phone must be at least 600 ohms. For crystal or piezoelectric headphones connect a 2k2 resistor in parallel.
