This circuit makes it possible to extract an audio modulation transmitted by a PWM carrier up to 500 kHz. It can be used to decode audio signals on an infrared link, for example, or to decode tones on a remote control. The maximum supply voltage is 9 V, but a higher voltage can be used for the LED.
