The sensor for this circuit found in a 1995 Electronics Now is a common LDR. R1 can have values between 10k and 1 M depending on the intensity of light that is desired when starting. C1 avoids triggering by short light pulses. The circuit can be supplied with 6 V if a relay for this voltage is used. The transistor can be the BC558.
