The circuit shown in the figure is indicated for medical applications where the sector in contact with the patient must be completely isolated from the rest of the circuit powered by the power network. The consumption of this stage is very low and the insulation for the 60 Hz power grid is 2 500 V. The circuit can operate with both analog and digital signals.
