This circuit is from a publication about thyristors from the 70s. It consists of a pulse generator whose phase angle depends on the R2 setting. It can be used as a basis for power control. Other diacs can be used, since for most types the trigger voltage is around 30 V. The circuit also works on the 220 V network with a change in capacitor C1.
