With the original transistor of this 1976 circuit, the maximum load current is 15 A, but we can have smaller currents, on the order of 5 A, with 2N3055. The higher power transistor must be equipped with a heat radiator and the zener is 6.8 V. The smaller HEPG6005 transistor can be the TIP31.
