This circuit, suggested by National Semiconductor, provides an output voltage proportional to the current in the load (IL). The proportionality ratio depends on the resistors according to the formula given next to the diagram in the figure. The field effect transistor is used as a buffer, and the operational amplifier must be symmetrical. Observe the tolerance of the components for greater precision in the output voltage in relation to the monitored current.
