This circuit is suggested by Motorola, employing a photodiode with housing designed for coupling in 1000micron plastic optical fibers. The photodiode has a response time of 5 ns and is compatible with the MFOE76 emitter also from MotoroIa. The 20k resistor at the operating input can be variable to adjust the sensitivity of the circuit. The current in the detector is 10 A for a 4 meters long cable, using an MFOE76 emitter with an excitation current of around 50 mA.
