In the figure we have the way to use a 4017 as a sequencer controlled by a microcontroller. With this circuit, the pulses from only one microcontroller output (74HC4017) can be used to have a sequential effect on a 4017 with 2 to 10 LEDs connected to the output. The circuit, in this case, must be powered by 5 V. For CMOS oscillators connected at the input, the power can go from 3 to 12 V and the integrated the 4017 common.
