The sensitivity of this circuit depends on the 22 M resistor. The circuit is from old Texas Instruments documentation and should never be powered by a source without a transformer. The 555 is in a monostable configuration and the ignition time depends on R1 and C1. With 5 V of supply the circuit can be used as a shield with pin 3 acting as an output.
