This voltage regulator from STMicroelectronics provides a 1,2 A current in the voltage range from 2.5 to 18 V, and can be considered an equivalent with low PSRR and low voltage drop of the LM117 series, but with SOT223 enclosure.
The STMicroelectronics voltage regulator LDL1117 can be considered a higher-yielding alternative with low voltage drop of the 117 series regulators, for surface mounting.
The regulator has a SOT223 housing with the pinout shown in figure 1,
The output current is 1.2 A and the input voltages can be in the range of 2.5 V to 18 V. The voltage drop with a current of 1.2 V is only 350 mV, which means a very low power dissipation.
In addition to the normal version with adjustable voltages, the component can also be obtained from SATMicroelectronics via Mouser at http://www.mouser.com/search/refine.aspx?Ntk=P_MarCom&Ntt=126978969 .
The complete datasheet of the component can be downloaded on the same page.
A typical application is shown in figure 2.
Some important features for modern applications should be emphasized as 87 dB of source ripple rejection at 120 Hz. Rejection remains high even at frequencies of 100 kHz (40 dB) which makes the device applicable in switched power supplies and converters DC-DC.
