The division for an odd number needs the aid of some external logic in addition to the use of the 4018. Figure bellow shows how to make a digital frequency divider for this number using the 4018 and one gate of the 4081. The output is not a square wave just as in the previous circuits. The maximum frequency depends on the power-supply voltage and is about 9 MHz for 10 V. See Part 2 for more information about the 4018.
