Decade counters, such as the 4017, can be cascaded as sourcing signals with the frequency divided by 10, 100, 1000, etc. The circuit is shown bellow and is an example of this application. It operates only with digital signals. Remember that the output is not a square wave. If you need a square wave [50 percent of duty cycle] additional logic sources may be used.
