The switched voltage regulator shown in the figure provides an output voltage of 5 V from 32 V input voltages with a current of up to 1 amp. The National Semiconductor LM2575 (or LM2576) can be found with 5, 12 or 15 V output voltages and with adjustable types. The LM2576 is suitable for currents up to 3 A. In both cases, with currents of 1 or 3 A, the integrated circuit must be equipped with a good heat radiator. The efficiency of the circuit in the voltage conversion is 80 to 90%.
