The basic idea of this 1988 circuit is to use a signal called REMOTE existing in some types of microcomputers of the time to shut down the power outlet. It is thus possible to program the circuit to make its auto-shutdown after a certain time. The circuit can be adapted to operate as a shield in modern microcontrollers using a 5 V or 6 V relay and an additional control shield.
