We find this simple circuit in an English publication called Electronic Circuit Design on spring 3 of 1980. The circuit shows how a reed-switch of low current capacity can be used to trigger a triac and thereby control a high-power load. In this circuit the current in the reed switch is a few hundred milliamps at most. The Triac can have multi-amp currents, such as the TIC series (TC226, TIC236, etc.).
