This two-transistor circuit was found in the 1990 special issue of Radio Electronics Experimenter magazine. The short-range circuit has 4 turns of 28 or 30 Ω unshaped wire with a diameter of 0.5 cm at L1. Trimmers values close to those indicated will work.
