We found this configuration in documentation from the 1970s, but all components are current. If a very low-power relay is used it can be connected to the 555 output. For relays of 100 mA or more, we recommend using a transistorized drive stage. The transformer can be 12 V with 200 to 500 mA if this is the voltage of the relay.
