Silicon carbide technology has gained a lot of recognition among electronic device manufacturers. Recently, products from a brand that specializes in the manufacture of SiC-based semiconductor components have made their way into our warehouses.

In the ever-growing Chinese market, there is fierce competition among manufacturers of electronic components. We are seeing more and more new suppliers coming from East Asia who offer their own products, but cannot demonstrate a long company history measured in decades. However, this does not mean that these brands are ephemeral or lack experience. BASiC Semiconductor, a relatively young supplier of semiconductors based on silicon carbide, is the best example here. It already boasts not only a sizeable portfolio, but also an impressive research team. BASiC’s R&D department is a group of specialists educated at universities in the US, Japan and China. Furthermore, the manufacturer cooperates with universities and other scientific institutions. This, combined with the strict focus on WBG (Wide-Band-Gap) semiconductors, makes BASiC Semiconductor one of China’s best specialized electronics suppliers.

Now, we are pleased to announce that BASiC Semiconductor products are now available from the TME catalogue, and many of them can be purchased directly from our warehouses. Below, we present a quick overview of the solutions you can purchase at TME.

SiC technology in semiconductors

Thanks to silicon carbide (SiC), it has become possible to manufacture components that boast exceptional electrical performance. Thanks to the use of SiC in semiconductors, a band gap that is three times wider than in the case of silicon (hence the name WBG ‒ Wide-Band-Gap) and, consequently, a much higher electric field strength can be achieved. In the case of connectors, applying SiC means that they are capable of handling high voltages (even several kV), and at the same time they have very low resistance in the conducting state (contributing to reduced energy loss and limited heat release).

Due to these characteristics, components made with the use of SiC technology are used in circuits in the field of energy industry (especially renewable sources), control of high currents (machine and vehicle drives), lighting controllers, automation, industrial equipment, transistor modules, and many other related products. If you are looking for solutions for these applications, you will definitely find them in the BASiC Semiconductor product range.

An overview of solutions offered by BASiC

The main product range of BASiC Semiconductors comprises basic electronic components in the field of semiconductors: diodes and transistors. These are rectifier and Schottky diodes, characterized by a reverse voltage up to 1.2 kV and a maximum forward current of up to 60 A (selected models). It should be noted here that the forward surge current tolerated by these components reaches even 340 A. They are available in single and double versions enclosed in typical TO-220 or TO-247 packages. BASiC transistors have a similar construction, but they are designed to control currents as high as 75 A (the current flowing to the collector of the highest IGBT models). It is worth noting that these components are also characterized by short turn-on times (min. 54 ns).

Moreover, the BASiC Semicondutor product range in the TME catalogue includes two types of ICs: PMICs and gate controllers. The former are voltage regulators (power management integrated circuit) based on PWM signal generators operating at 500 kHz and supplying currents up to 1 A. The controllers, on the other hand, are made in 1- and 2-channel versions, designed to control loads with currents of -6…4 A, -5…5 A or 0…10 A, making them suitable for various applications, such as controlling the operation of motors or actuators while ensuring circuit separation. In addition, they are enclosed in SMD (SOP and SOW) packages, which allows to significantly miniaturize entire circuits.
