We found this circuit in a European publication of the 1980s. The transistor could be the BC549. The input and output cables must be shielded and the power supply must have excellent filtering. The unmarked capacitor at the base of the transistor is 1 uF and that of 50 uF can be replaced by one of 47 uF.
